I wanted to connect with you about something deeply personal, something we’re all navigating in our own way: the journey through menopause. It’s a time when our bodies are telling a powerful story, a story of change, of adaptation, and yes, sometimes, of vulnerability.
And one of the chapters in this story is about flexibility. You might be noticing that things feel different. That the ease of movement you once knew seems to have shifted. We all know that flexibility is everything – it’s key to living fully.
This isn’t just in your head. There’s a real science to it.
As our estrogen levels decline, it impacts collagen production, which is what gives our muscles, tendons, and ligaments their stretchiness. It’s like the threads of a beautiful tapestry are subtly altering. We also tend to retain less water as we go through this transition, which can contribute to a feeling of tightness or stiffness.
Now, here’s what I want you to know: you are not alone in this. This is a shared experience, and it’s okay to not feel okay about it sometimes.
It’s okay to feel frustrated, or even a little bit betrayed by your own body as you navigate peri-menopause (I feel this). But this is also an opportunity to cultivate a new kind of self-compassion, and a new kind of strength.
Yoga, as we move through this phase of life, isn’t about pushing ourselves to our limits. It’s about meeting ourselves with honesty and tenderness, and finding a way to move that feels both supportive and empowering. It’s about building resilience, not just in our bodies, but in our hearts and minds. It’s about rewriting the story of this chapter with courage and grace. Also, be kind to yourself. Do those things that are supportive for your body to help you through. Think massage, think nutrition support…!
You’ve got this. We’ve got this.💗
